New Greenville Web Design Site Live!

I just published up the new Greenville Web Design Site, and I am totally stoked by the new look!

There is a hidden “Easter Egg” in the design doesn’t do much but it’s just for fun.

I don’t consider the site “done” as I am still going to add a few more elements for usability and my portfolio page is still a work in progress.

The site features good clean XHTML, HTML5 elements, CSS2 and CSS3, php, JavaScript, custom jQuery and Open Source jQuery plug-ins, php and a brand spanking new WordPress template on the blog.

Please let me know if you find any bugs.

Yes I know some of the older posts don’t validate.

I have made the choice to stop supporting IE6, it’s freaking old people!

Final thought: jQuery rocks!

Get seen through better search engine optimization

Client is asking: Would Europe come with the basic SEO package?

Short answer is yes and no

Let me clarify:

Since Google is the dominate search tool used in Europe, a well optimized site will be competitive over there for the same search terms that work here in the US.

An example:

searches done 10/23/2009 12:47:23 PM

If you search the term ” koeksisters recipe ” at www.google.com you’ll see that www.africhef.com and www.koeksister.us are #1 & 2 in the results.

Searching for the same term at www.google.nl (Holland) and  http://www.google.de (German), you’ll get the same top two results.

Interestingly the search in the UK had a different out come africhef.com was still #1 and koeksister.us was now #4.

This goes to show that in Google case each website performs well for the keywords it is optimized for.

Where the “No” comes in is that in Holland a searcher would likely search for “koeksisters recept“,  and for that term africhef.com and koeksister.us are no where to be found.

To efficiently optimize for those markets I would need to work with a native speaker to create a mini site for each region.

This would be an additional fee.

Online Ticket System using FoxyCart

Foxy Cart

Last week I got to create a fun little ticketing system using FoxyCart for an event at a historic mansion in Virginia.

The Need:

  • The client requested a inexpensive ticketing system that could be integrated into his website with no need for a SSL certificate.
  • Branded Event Tickets needed to be generated and displayed for printing to the purchaser.
  • Each Ticket needed an unique ID number and purchaser’s name printed on it.
  • Client required a spread sheet print out of ticket numbers and names to check against tickets at the event.
